Trigger Point Injections
Help relieve muscle pain, spasms, tension and cramping!
Whenever there is a disturbance in your musculoskeletal system, whether it is an injury, trauma, or over use, your muscles will go into overdrive trying to protect your body. This in turn causes muscles to cramp, spasm, tense or or become painful.
A myofascial trigger point, also known as a knot, is a painful, tense area found within a band of skeletal muscle. Trigger points often can be felt as a nodule or band within a muscle. Applying pressure to these areas can replicate symptoms, eliciting spasms, local and referred pain, or causing radiating pain within the affected muscle.
Trigger Point Injections (TPIs) are an effective, quick, safe, and minimally invasive solution used to treat a variety of pain syndromes. Medication is injected into the trigger point, located in any muscle group throughout the body, using a very fine needle. Treatments only take a few minutes and the area can be numbed with topical anesthetics beforehand to reduce discomfort. Women's health clinic.
Typically, a corticosteroid is used to reduce inflammation, but BeaYOUtiful Health & Wellness does not use corticosteroids on a regular basis due to the long-term effects they can have on your body. Therefore, we use an anesthetic to numb the muscle, which in turn soothes the muscle and helps it to relax. In some cases, depending on the severity, we will use a small number of corticosteroids in conjunction with the anesthetic. This will help inflammation in addition to allowing the muscle to relax and recover. Injections can be done as often as every 10 days.
In some cases, no medication is used. This is called dry needling. It can be just as effective and may be a good option for individuals who prefer to avoid using medication.
